Sento
Bath houses were once an integral part of life in Japan. Modern architecture has sidelined this cultural tradition as private bathing spaces have been incorporated into the home. Surviving as a recreational activity, this once important social space is increasingly being lost. This bath house, photographed in an eastern suburb of Tokyo in 2003, has since been converted into an apartment block.
